Manager’s Report and Pro’s Corner
We continue to be very fortunate for our volunteer group. Tim Kuhn donated the paint to finish up the old pro shop and cart shed. Very soon you will see the maintenance shed painted, again with Tim’s generosity. He also donated the paint for the handicap parking and the new 200, 150, and 100 yard stripes on the cart paths. Bob Wierzbicki, and Paul Spencer did the painting. Brian Laheney, Jerry Matthews, Pete Deacon, and Fred Fogleman cleaned up the road coming into the course. Paul donated his Bobcat to get rid of some stumps. Mike Growney helped out by supplying the transportation to get Paul’s rig to and from the course. John Jennings was able to get us the cement for the dam on the south side. I continue to ask and appreciate the advice Steve Judson, Mike and Scott Dudley, and Dominick Benedet on issues concerning their respective talents. Kevin Brunnemer has and is offering suggestions to benefit the club and Jim Fortado put me in touch with a gentleman from Oregon with used equipment for sale. Buddy Young is looking for volunteers to help him level the steps on the tees on the back nine. You can call Buddy or let us know in the pro shop and we’ll sign you up. Thank you all for your input. Your president, Tonnie Spencer played in a couples tournament in Medford over Memorial Day and discussed with their manager becoming a “sister club”, which is the same arrangement we have with Reames in Klamath Falls. This will be presented to the respective Board’s for ratification and should be in place by August 1st. We are also in negotiations with Baywood, Redwood Empire, and Roseburg Country Club. Steve Whalen and David Latimer made aces recently. It was Steve’s first and it happened on number four. David made his on eighteen and flew it into the hole. Congratulation gentlemen. If anyone makes an ace please get in touch with me and I’ll sign you up with the PGA and you’ll get a certificate from them for your achievement. Tournaments for this month include the Shiners and the High Handicapper on the 10th. The 17th is the new SET Scramble. You can have mixed teams, all men or all women teams. If you have a mixed team you must have two men and two women or everyone tees off the men’s tees. Entry is $25 per player which will go toward the entry in Las Vegas in September. There is a gross and net division. If our teams do well in Las Vegas there are no other entry fees involved to go to the finals which are also in Las Vegas in October. For more details contact the pro shop. We are also hosting Riverview for the Ryder Cup on the 24th. This is the third year of competition between. We won the first year here and tied at Riverview last year. Marshall and his crew continue to do a great job of keeping your course in great condition during this hot time of the year. We get lots of compliments from players from other courses.
