PRO’S CORNER
Here are a few of your upcoming events. On August 5th there is a Senior Home & Home with Butte Creek and Canyon Oaks at Wilcox beginning at 9:00 a.m. The 9th is an NCGA Net Amateur tourney with tee times starting at 8 a.m. The ladies reciprocal day has been changed from the 20th and combined with the PAWS Fund Raiser on Sept. 3rd. Sadie Hawkins will take place on the 24th with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun. Ladies, for the Sadie Hawkins, grab a partner who is not a spouse and sign up. If you need a partner let us know. We are keeping a list of eligible men for your convenience. The Men’s Invitational is taking place the 5th, 6th, and 7th of September. The entries should be in the mail or already in your possession. Junior golf is just finishing up. We had a great sign up and I want to thank Mike Blum for his help while I was out. If you want pictures of the Sam Baskins Memorial tourney that took place here and at Gold Hills or pictures of our junior final on July 29 you can go to at-a-glance photography.com. Ashley Stever (Bruce Phelp’s daughter) came to both events and took a bunch of photos. You can contact her at 200-2904 or steverphotos@yahoo.com. We are going back to Acapulco on January 20th. I am only allowed 48 seats on the plane. If you want to have a great trip, sign up soon because it will fill up fast. If you are a new member and did not get a brochure in the mail, I have them in the pro shop. Here is a rule everyone should be aware of. It is Rule 1-2. Exerting influence on the ball. Here is an example. I am playing in a foursome and all are partners. One of the balls has been hit onto the green and has come to rest behind the hole about six or eight inches. One of the partners gets ready for the chip and doesn’t have the ball marked. He proceeds to chip and hits his partner’s ball using it as a backstop. Here is how Rule 1-2 reads. A player or caddie must not take any action to influence the position or movement of a ball except in accordance with the rules. Penalty for breach of rule 1-2 is match play: loss of hole: stroke play: two strokes. In case of a serious breach of 1-2 the Committee may impose a penalty of disqualification. Note: A player is deemed to have committed a serious breach of Rule 1-2 if the Committee considers that his act or influencing the position or movement of the ball has allowed him or another player to gain a significant advantage or has placed another player, other than his partner, at a significant disadvantage. It is great to be back to work. The knee feels like it is about 80% and getting better. Thanks for all the calls and cards. Bill De Wildt |
